The Chinese company Vivo showcased the device with in-display fingerprint tech in Las Vegas at CES 2018, who becomes the first company in the world to implement the technology in a smartphone. And the technology, place fingerprint scanner for smartphones under the display was also announced by Synaptics earlier.
Vivo posted a teaser image with the tagline “Unlock the Future” and “CES 2018”, which meant it would unveil the in-display fingerprint smartphone at CES 2018. And now Vivo confirmed the rumor. The in-display fingerprint sensor will sit between the mainboard and the OLED panel where it will illuminate the finger and then process the beams of light.
Vivo’s Senior VP Alex Feng said in a press that release the solution is solving the industry’s challenge of providing a more convenient authentication experience. And the phone is ready for mass production and should be announced in “early 2018”. The security will be the same level as the current scanners that are seen in flagship devices such as vivo X20 and Samsung Galaxy S8, Synaptics assured in a previous press message.
