Samsung’s flagship Galaxy S6 and S6 edge smartphones are set to be released in Australia on April 10, one month after they were first revealed.
The phones have already made a splash due to their flashy designs, moving away from Samsung’s typical plastic finish to a new look featuring an matte aluminium alloy frame and Gorilla Glass 4 on the front and back.
The new phones arguably have taken design cues from Apple, which has led the global smartphone race for years now with its ubiquitous iPhone range.
Samsung has taken its design aspirations one step further though with the Galaxy S6 edge, which packs a unique curved display on each side of the device. The Galaxy S6 is otherwise the same as its edge sibling, but with a more standard flat screen.
The Galaxy S6 and S6 edge boast a 5.1-inch 2560×1440 QuadHD AMOLED display, and also feature an octocore chip developed in-house, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage and wireless charging support.
The Korean tech giant also said it has cut down on its Android add-on software by 40 per cent – likely to be welcome news for those fed up with ‘bloatware’ slowing down their devices.
Pre-orders open today through various telcos. The phone starts at RRP of $999 for the 32GB Galaxy S6, going all the way to $1,449 for the 128GB Galaxy S6 edge.
“The GS6 and GS6 edge blend cutting-edge design and style with the latest in Samsung mobile innovation and material,” said Samsung Australia’s Prasad Gokhale.
“This range has been designed to offer Australians a truly premium and luxurious experience in every way.
“The GS6 and GS6 edge smartphones represent a pivotal step for the Galaxy range in evolving the category as a whole, marking a clear shift in how we deliver exceptional smartphones for Australians.”
