If you are a Mac user who is always running out of disk space on his or her computer, then we have a solution that will help you in getting a significant amount of disk space back. With these easy to follow tips you will be able to free up multiple gigabytes of disk space on your computer without having to delete any apps or data that is important to you.

In order to free up GBs of disk space on your Mac launch the the storage management tool by clicking on the Apple logo from the menu bar and then clicking on ‘About This Mac’. Once you are on the overview screen click on the Storage tab from the top and finally hit the Manage button.

GarageBand data: Now that you have the storage management tool running look for ‘Music Creation’ from the side pane and then remove GarageBand sound library. This should free up around 3GB of disk space on your computer. This step is highly recommended for Mac users out there who do not use the GarageBand application.

iOS Files: Next click on iOS Files option from the side pane. Doing so will reveal a list of iOS files that are stored on your machine. This would include backups for your iOS devices and iOS software update files downloaded in the past. Select the files you want to remove from your computer and hit the delete button. This is a great way to regain a significant amount of Mac disk space, especially for users who have outdated iOS firmware files and iOS device backups stored on their computer. However be careful when doing this as you do not want to delete iOS backups for devices that are currently in your use and are being backed up on your computer only.

Applications: You can also take advantage of the Applications section of the storage management tool to identify apps that you no longer use and see how much disk space is being used by them. In case you find any apps that are no longer useful for you, you can simply select them and click on the Delete button to instantly remove them from your device, and free up valuable Mac disk space as a result.

Mail: You can also save some disk space by making the Mail app download attachments for recent messages only. In my case I can save over 1GB of disk space by switching to attachments for recent emails only.

Trash: Many users out there do not realize that their Mac’s Trash folder may be taking up GBs of disk space that can be utilized for other things. You can use the storage management tool of the Mac to easily remove all the files thrown into the Trash and potentially free up GBs of disk space in the process. Also it is worth building a habit of regularly clearing out the Trash folder to prevent valuable disk space from getting wasted.
